Provide的基本含义
Provide常见的意思是‘提供、供应、给予’。比如：The company provides excellent services.（这家公司提供优质的服务。）或者He provided me with a lot of help.（他给了我很多帮助。）
Provide的用法
1. 及物动词用法
Provide用作及物动词时，可表示‘提供，供给，供应，装备’等。
- 接名词或代词作简单宾语，如：The school provides books for the students.（学校为学生提供书籍。）
- 接双宾语，常用介词for引出间接宾语，也可用介词with引出直接宾语，有时with可省略，如：She provided food for the hungry children.（她为饥饿的孩子们提供食物。） 也可以说She provided the hungry children with food. 这里with可以省略。
2. 不及物动词用法
Provide用作不及物动词时常与for, against等介词搭配，如：We must provide for the future.（我们必须为未来做好准备。）

Provide和supply都有‘提供’的意思，但它们在用法上有一些区别。Provide通常指有远见，为应付意外、紧急情况等作好充分准备而‘供给、提供’，可用于provide sb.（with sth.）或provide sth.（for sb.）结构。Supply通常指定期‘供应’，强调替代或补充所需物品，常用于supply sb. with sth.或supply sth. to sb.结构。例如：The government provides food for the poor.（政府为穷人提供食物。） 这里用provide更合适，强调政府为应对贫困情况而提供食物。The company supplies us with raw materials.（公司为我们供应原材料。） 这里用supply更合适，强调公司定期为我们提供原材料。
